The dress code on board and ashore is relaxed casual. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended for sightseeing excursions. Dinner attire is “evening casual”. You should bring warm clothes during the winter months in Halong Bay from November to March and cool, light clothing for sun protection is recommended during the summer months in Halong Bay.

The cancellation of the cruise is decided by the Halong Bay local authorities. They closely monitor the weather conditions; they usually do not give official notice but instead do not give permission for boats to go out. Usually, in case of storms, The Au Co informs guests a day before the cruise. In cases where there is little or no knowledge beforehand of a storm, The Au Co may announce the cancellation on the morning of the cruise or as soon as it receives information from the local authorities that no boats are allowed to go out.

The Au Co tries to avoid operating any vessel in the vicinity of a tropical system and we monitor the progress of these storms very closely. If there is any potential threat to any of our guests or ships, the itinerary may be altered to try to avoid any interaction with the storm or any affected areas.

You can make any special requests on the Room Details Page of the booking form (where you complete the guest names and select nationality). Please click on "Special Requests” and then simply type in your request. However, please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and can only be confirmed upon arrival.

On arrival in Halong Bay, you will simply need to present: 

  • Booking confirmation
  • Identification documents (proof of citizenship) for each guest
  • Credit card or cash to use for your onboard expenses.

Yes. Besides our accommodation service, Bhaya Cruises also supports our guests in arranging hotel booking, airport transfers, Ha Long – Hanoi – Ha Long transfers and visa on arrival. If you need any extra service, please kindly contact our Sales Department for more details.

You are very welcome as long as you haven’t entered the 37th week of your pregnancy by the beginning of the cruise. Please advise us how far along (in weeks) your pregnancy is and confirm that you are in good health and are not experiencing a high-risk pregnancy. Also, please inform us of the status of your pregnancy so that we can take good care of you. The Au Co strongly recommends you review your health insurance coverage before your cruise.

The best time of year to visit Halong Bay, Cat Ba Island, Lan Ha Bay, and Bai Tu Long Bay is during spring or autumn. As the bay is situated in the northern part of Vietnam, it can get quite cold in late autumn and winter. You should be aware that the cruise may encounter sporadic cancellations between July and September due to storms. However, generally speaking, you can enjoy The Au Co cruise all year round.

We require all our guest’s names and personal data prior to embarking and also request to leave any questionable items at home. No weapons, firearms, ammunition, explosive devices and illegal drugs will be allowed onboard. This policy is to ensure your comfort and worry-free vacation so we strongly encourage your compliance.

Children are very welcome aboard The Au Co. Occupancy of a room is limited to two adults and one child. The Au Co may however allow children to stay in the room with their parents, either with or without an extra bed. Our policy is not to charge for children under 5 years of age. One extra child, aged between 6 and 11, staying with his/her parents with the existing bed arrangement is charged at US$ 100/ child/ night. Two children below 12 staying in a separate cabin will be charged at 75% of the adult price. Children older than 12 years of age will be charged the same as adults.

We make every effort to accommodate our guests' dietary requirements whenever possible. We can accommodate dietary needs such as: vegetarian meals (including Indian-style vegetarian), halal cuisine, and baby food as per your request. All you have to do is notify us at least one week prior to your cruise. Please note that infant formula is not provided on board.

We accept US Dollars, Euros and Vietnam Dong. However, we are unable to exchange money on board. Any items you purchase on board, together with any optional excursions you purchase, will simply be added to your on board account. You may settle your account in cash (Vietnam Dong, US Dollars or Euros) or by credit card (sorry, we are unable to accept traveller’s cheques).

For the comfort and enjoyment of all our guests, smoking is not allowed in any of the vessel’s interior spaces. However, smoking is permitted in the sheltered external areas designated for smoking, on the Sundeck, the open balcony and other boat decks on port and starboard. Smoking is permitted on open decks but not near open doors, windows, hatches or ventilation intakes, the petrol storage tank, kitchen area, dining area and the bars. You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco products onboard. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must always be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard.

Onboard electricity is 220V AC. Adapters are available at the Reception Desk on request. If you have any questions about the appropriate place to plug in your hair dryer, razor or any other electric appliances, please check with our staff.

While there is no laundry service on board, we can iron or press clothes (an extra cost applies). Simply contact the Reception Desk for information.

Yes, if you need an iron please kindly contact our Receptionist on board.

Yes, all of our cabins have hairdryers. Have a look at our fact sheet for more information about the facilities and amenities available in each cabin.

Babysitting is offered both in a group setting, and individually. To guarantee the availability of the babysitting service, please reserve this through our Sales Department on sales@aucocruises.com at least 24 hours in advance. The service is offered between 8.00 am and 2.00 am whenever staff are available. Babysitters will be assigned on a first come first served basis.

Children MUST be at least 1 year old. 

Approximate Rate: US$12.00 per hour for one or two children within the same family or $15.00 per hour for three children within the same family. Times and prices are subject to change without prior notice. Payment must be made in cash or by credit card upon check out.

Tips are entirely discretionary and not included in your cruise price. Rather than showing your gratitude to each staff member individually, you may wish to tip the onboard staff collectively at the end of your cruise. We suggest around US$5 - $10 (or equivalent local currency) per guest – but of course this is entirely up to you. Collective tips are aggregated and distributed among our entire staff. Any additional, personal tips are at your own discretion.

The Au Co monitors the weather situation closely and will try hard to keep you updated. Please always leave us your contact details, such as your hotel in Hanoi or your mobile number in Vietnam.

If the cruise is cancelled before your departure from Hanoi, The Au Co shall notify you and make a 100% refund for the cabin and any transfer charge. If you have booked a hotel with The Au Co before or after your cruise, the hotel booking remains unchanged.

If you are already in Halong Bay, The Au Co shall try to book you on a day cruise with lunch on board, which is usually around US$ 80/ person, plus transfer costs from/to Hanoi.

You can make Spa or Kayak reservations once on board The Au Co. If you are interested in these services, please make your reservation as soon as you come aboard, as appointments tend to fill up quickly. Alternatively, you can request these extra services before the start of your cruise by emailing sales@aucocruises.com.

While there is no on board doctor as part of the crew, The Au Co is equipped with a First Aid Kit and a basic medicine supply. Please ensure you bring adequate supplies of prescription medications to cover the duration of your trip. We also recommend that you bring medicines for colds, fever and diarrhea. Of course while we hope you will not need them, it is always better to be prepared.

Should you encounter a serious medical emergency requiring onshore assistance, our tender can return to the pier and take you to the nearest hospital within one hour. Indeed, the whole boat can be returned to the pier within two hours. If you or one of your cruise companions is feeling ill, please inform the Reception Desk immediately.

Yes, the lifeboats are located on the Sundeck; each accommodates a maximum of 12 people. In addition, life vests are available in each cabin, under your bed, in the dining area, under your chairs, and in the tender boat; so please check for those once on board. You are recommended to wear a life jacket for all excursions, kayaking and swimming activities.

If you have some missing or damaged luggage, or wish to enquire about an item you may have left on board, please email us at sales@aucocruises.com. When contacting us, please give us your full name, cabin number and the cruise date.

The reception area is the central point on board and our staff are on 24 hour standby behind the reception desk.

Your safety is our number one priority. In case of emergency, please put on the life vest and gather at the reception area. Follow the instructions of the cruise manager or chief purser. Your cabin is also equipped with a hammer for breaking the window and an emergency lamp. Tender boats and lifeboats are ready and there are enough places for all passengers on board.

Yes, we take the safety and security of our guests and crew seriously; hence, we have 24h security on board. The Captain and Cruise Manager are the Security Officers and you are welcome to ask about personal safety ashore or while cruising. Furthermore, jewelry and other valuables can be deposited in the safety deposit box at the Reception Desk. There are no safes in the cabins or suites.

Once we have received your credit card details and confirmed that your cabin or suite is available, we will send you a confirmation email. 

The Au Co uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt all information. Please click here to check our site's authenticity and to verify the validity of our secured communication. Your credit card will be charged by The Au Co Co., Ltd. If you have any questions regarding charges to your credit card, please contact our customer support team at sales@aucocruises.com.

All our quotes are in US Dollars. The Au Co accepts payment by Visa, MasterCard and American Express by bank transfer. If you are living or staying in Vietnam, you can also make payment by credit card or cash prior to your cruise date.

It depends on your selected package. Please select a tentative date, check the price and refer to the inclusions/exclusions list. Usually you can expect to have the cabin charges and meals included. Transfers to and from the Gulf of Tonkin, spa services, beverages, and hotel accommodation in Halong Bay or Hanoi are usually excluded from the package price.

It depends on the size of your group. If you are travelling individually or in a group of up to 10 guests, final payment of the balance must be received by The Au Co immediately after you complete booking. If you are in a group of 11-20 guests, the Au Co will charge your credit card at the time of booking. If you are in a larger group of 21-70 guests, 90 days prior to the cruise date.

If your cruise is during a holiday period, e.g. Christmas and New Year, payment is due 30 days prior to the cruise date.

The cancellation policy depends on the number of cabins you reserve. For your convenience, you can find a link to this policy on both the booking form as well as your Confirmation Email.

Changes to the period / length of your stay may result in a cancellation fee. This also includes requests for shortened stays or date changes before and after your check-in. 

If you plan to cancel your booking, please notify us. Our English-speaking staff are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

Yes. The credit card holder is not required to be present at check-in. If you are the credit card holder, but will not be one of the guests, you can still pay for the booking via third party payment. As the credit card holder, all you have to do is complete and fax a Payment Confirmation form as well as a copy of both sides of your credit card to +84 4 39 33 45 45. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to email us.

The maximum number of adults in one cabin is two. However, The Au Co can accommodate infants with travel cots sharing their parents cabin or provide an extra mattress for children under 12 years old. Travel cots and extra mattresses are available. As soon as you have made your reservation, please make a note directly in the booking in order to check the availability and reserve a cot or extra mattress.
