During the third annual meeting of the Ha Long Cat Ba Alliance Leadership Committee, Mr. Darius Postma for Au Co, presented the findings back to the Ha Long / Quang Ninh provincial governments and other stakeholders. It was alarming that on the day polystyrene, which is classed as a cacogenic, made up 44% of the total garbage that we collected. Following the meeting the banned the use of polystyrene and called for its replacement.

The Ha Long city People’s committee held a meeting to discuss on this issue. As a result, on 26 July 2016, the decision to ban the usage of polystyrene in floating villages and fishing activities around the Ha Long Bay - World Heritage Site was announced.
